Plantation Shutters, New Yankee Workshop DVD

Custom Plantation Shutters ordinarily cost a fortune, but Norm shows you how to make your own for an inexpensive price.

He begins by building a selection of jigs for drilling holes, setting staples and mortising hinges. After machining the Basswood slats, he mounts them on a control rod and frames the assembly with poplar. The completed shutters are then painted and installed, resulting in smooth operation and a truly impressive appearance. Includes measured shop drawings.

Wall Paneling, New Yankee Workshop DVD

See how easy it can be to create rich, three-dimensional paneled walls! To begin, Norm shows some wonderful examples of wall paneling techniques in a home restored several years ago by This Old House.

At the simplest end of the spectrum, he shows how molding can be applied to a plain wall to create a paneled effect. Then he brings us into to the Workshop to show classic bead board paneling, raised panel systems and, finally, rich mahogany paneling using veneered plywood and solid custom moldings. The Stock Cart is a strong, lightweight wagon with five shelves to organize your parts, clamps or tools, and wheels to roll them easily from machine to machine.

In this DVD, Norm sets out to design and build the ultimate Poker Table. The finished product is a clear winner, showcasing beautiful mahogany and seating eight players with recessed brass cup holders and a chip well for every player.

Who couldn’t use more storage for books and display items? Recognizing the need for a good bookcase system that can be added to as needed, Norm designs a modular system that can be adjusted to go around existing windows and doors.
