Shear scraping is a recently enhanced method of woodturning which relies on the presentation of the scraper at a shear angle. The technique offers some significant advantages over conventional scrapers.
45° Shear Scrapers - The 3/8'' square shank sits firmly on the tool rest and presents the cutter at a 45° angle to the workpiece when used in either direction. This is due to the unique cutter seating position. Each tip can be re-positioned several times before re-sharpeining becomes necessary.
» At the optimum angle of 45°, the slicing action is safer and produces a superior finish
» Sanding is often unnecessary
» The risk of the cutter digging-in is virtually eliminated
Spare 826C and 827C HSS cutters are available and are fully interchangeable. |

Taming the skew is perhaps the most common of problems encountered by the woodturner. The digs-ins which ensue from incorrect presentation cause many turners to avoid using the skew chisels and consequently reduce their skills and limit their opportunities of turning between centres. The new Spindlemaster does away with this problem. Its design is flat on one surface, and the oval on the other making dig-ins a thing of the past. It is easy to use for even the least experienced turner. In addition to doing the regular planning job of the skew chisel, the Spindlemaster will also cut both beads and coves with the greatest ease. The Spindlemaster gives a fine finish every time. That is a particular advantage when working on soft woods like pine which normally leave a very coarse finish. |

Recommended for the initial turning of uneven or square stock to round.
The shape of the roughing-out gouge enables the tool to cut safely with the wings (the name given to the tips of the side walls) well back from the workpiece.
* Not for use on bowl grain projects. |
