Unfinished Wood Box Design Specifications

Our unfinished boxes are made-to-order. You design it and we'll build it! To determine if we are able to help you with a custom box, submit your own specifications using our online form. We'll communicate with you, asking questions and getting all the details from you we need to make sure we make the perfect box for you. Hopefully this page will help you determine the specs you need before you fill out our form.

Keep in mind that we use 1/2" material to make our boxes. We need this thickness not only to insure proper hardware installation, but also to create quality boxes that will last for years. NOTE: We can use 1/4" MDF hardboard for bottoms or 1/4" woodgrain veneer with solid wood framework for lids. These are available on request. It is our experience that most people plan to store a certain item in a box. If this is the case, we prefer that you post the "inside dimensions" (ID) of the box when filling out our request form. NOTE: When requesting a box with an arched top, we will need the inside depth of the lower half of the box. We will calculate the lid and arch ourselves. Once we know the specs, we will calculate the cost of materials and labor and e-mail you a price quote. Our preferred payment method is PayPal. With your permission, we would like to send you a PayPal 'request for money' invoice for secure online credit card payments. Sorry, no wholesale pricing and no international shipping. Due to the nature of the product, we do not offer refunds on custom orders.
DISCLAIMER: All custom boxes are shipped "unfinished" and in their natural state. You are responsible for sealing and finishing your own boxes. We will NOT be held responsible for any boxes left unattended that become warped or split due to exposure to environmental changes.

» Now Let's Discuss Hardware:

We allow you to choose the Custom Box Hinges and Custom Box Latches for your special box. Sometimes choices made do not work with a box style you may have chosen. If this happens, we will offer alternatives.

One thing you should keep in mind is that you can save money by purchasing your own hardware and installing it yourself. Most people like to install the hardware after the finish work is done, so if you would like to purchase the hardware from us and have us pre-drilled only, we can do that too.

» Things to Consider:

If you are interested in any other special enhancements such as dividers, drawers, trays, etc., just make sure you let us know and we'll consider them in our price quote.

If you have a sketch or drawing, send it over via e-mail or Fax. Remember the old saying "a picture says a thousand words". This is so true when designing a box. Our fax number is "available on request". If you could e-mail us prior to faxing and let us know what time you plan to fax, we will make sure we're are not online during transmission. We are MST - Mountain Standard Time.

» Detailed Specifications:

Here are the kinds of details we need to know in order to create the perfect box for you. The more details, the better.

Do you want this box to be able to lay flat when opened up or stop at 90 degrees? This will help us determine the hinges to use:
» 180-degree standard hinges
» 10mm 180-degree barrel hinges
» exterior mount 90-degree stop hinges
» 90-degree stop barbed hinges
» solid brass 90-degree stop hinges
» 5mm mini 90-degree stop barrel hinges
(PLEASE NOTE: 10mm barrel hinges work great on boxes where the lid and bottom are equal in height. These hinges open out at 180 degrees. For 90 degree stop, we recommend the 5mm mini barrel hinges; only suitable for small boxes - 6" and under.)
How do you want the lid to look and fit? If you want a solid flat top, we can make it interlocking to fit snug into the bottom section of the box. This style requires the use of 3/4" thick stock. For non-interlocking we can use 1/2" material.
Would you like it to overhang on the sides and front? How about the top recessed in to allow for such applications as inlaid veneers, ceramic tiles, or leatherwork?
Do you need partitions, trays or dividers inside? Maybe holes drilled for paint bottles?
Would you like the edges rounded over or left square? How about wooden trim around the top and bottom? Or maybe the top edges routed with a decorative edge?

All custom orders require payment in advance unless otherwise stated. We accept credit/debit card payments through PayPal.com. We will send you an invoice through email with the details of your order.
