| As a child in the Balinese mountain village and artistic center of Tegalalang, artist Bukti Suyasa sold his nature drawings at the market to pay for his own schooling.
Now part of a craft cooperative, he sculpts and paints these rustic interpretations of the elusive Talaud Rail, discovered four years ago on Indonesia's Karakelong Island in the Talaud Archipelago. Suyasa carves a pair of these little birds from Balinese albesia wood and paints their features before applying an antiqued finish.
