| Sesam is a rich medium brown wood with deep grains. One can easily see the influence of Kashmir designs on the Saharanpur woodcrafts. They reflect the designs of stone carvings of Agra, which is a true example of the Mughal art developed during the Mughal era. On the Saharanpur woodwork, brass, copper, ivory or plastic inlay is also done by carving the surface lightly and pressing in the precut pieces. The blocks are used to make the lid of the box while the base is usually plain. These are beautiful and intricately carved blocks, sometimes decorated with brass inlay.
